LAGER, DONOVAN, AMBROSE, KELLY

On Wednesday morning, March 8, the sorrowful news passed around that Mrs. William Lager had been called to her eternal reward at her home here.

Deceased was well known in our midst, having been born and reared in this community. Her life was once of devotion and sacrifice for her family and home, and her passing is mourned by a wide circle of relatives and friends. She was an ardent member of the Catholic church and died fortified with the divine influence of its extreme rights. She was a charter member of the W.C.O.F. and also a member of the Rosary Society.

Johanna Donovan was born Feb. 19, 1869, in Union City twp., Allamakee County, Iowa, a daughter of the late Dennis and Sarah Donovan. She received her education in the rural schools of that township. She was married to William Lager in St. Mary's Church at Dorchester on Feb. 9, 1891. After marriage they lived in Eitzen, Minn., for three years, then moving to New Albin which has ever since been her home.

Mrs. Lager is survived by her husband, two daughters, Miss Gretta at home and Mrs. S.E. Ambrose, Elkhart, Ind.; four sons, Vincent, Aurora, Ill.; Urban, Dubuque; Fred, Rockwell City, Iowa; Edward, Fairhope, Alabama; one brother, M.E. Donovan, New Albin; also 13 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters, Miss Veronica and Mrs. Joe (Florence) Kelly; also eight brothers and sisters.

Funeral services were held at 0 o'clock Friday morning at St. Joseph's Church with the Rev. L.L. Hayes, pastor, officiating at the Requiem Mass and saying the prayers at the graveside in St. Joseph's Cemetery west of town. The members of W.C.O.F. and Rosary Society attended the funeral in a body. Casket bearers were Earl Welsh, I. Imhoff, George May, J.W. Kelly, D.J. Kelley, and William Bakewell.

Ambrose, Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Donovan, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lager and son James, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Lager, Mr. and Mrs. George Lager, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Lager, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Lager, Mrs. Neuman Dahle, Mr., and Mrs. F. Voight and son Dale, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Deters, of Caledonia, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Thiele, Henry Lager, Waukon; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Stadtler, Freeburg, Minn.; Mrs. Anna Thiele, Mr. and Mrs. John Theile, Mr. and Mrs Walter Thiele and daughter Margaret, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Thiele, Mrs. Ben Thiele, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Meiners, Eitzen, Minn.; Mrs. Charles Graf, Brownsville, Minn.
