Passing of Mrs. Patrick Kernan

The angel of death, whose visits are always unwelcomed, came to the Max Niblick home on Clinton Street, this city, in the early hours of Saturday morning, when the soul of Mrs. Niblock's mother, Mrs Patrick Kernan, took its flight to heavenly realms above. The deceased had been ailing for a week with a cold and bronchitis but her condition was not considered serious until a short time before her demise. She passed away calmly and seemingly without pain at 2 a.m.

Mary Mooney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Mooney was born at Cincinnati, Ohio, in June, 1849. She came with her parents to this county when a child with the Father Hoar colony, established at Wexford, in Lafayette township, and has resided here ever since. Her marrriage to Patrick Kernan took place at Wexford Church in 1867, Rev. Farther Hoar officiating. Their union was blessed by eleven children, two of whom died in infancy.

Her husband died thirteen years ago and she is survived by seven sons and two daughters as follows: Joseph, Patrick, Stephen, Thomas and James of Lafayette and Taylor townships, this county: Simon of Madison, Wis.; Michael of Belmond, Iowa; Mrs Mary Niblock and Mrs. Kate Delaney, both of Waukon. She is also survived by a sister, Mrs. James Brennan of Columbus, Georgia.

Since the death of her husband she has made her home mostly in this city with her daughter, Mrs. Max Niblock, and her old age was made as comfortable as possible by this dutiful and loving daughter.
