JAMES KERNAN

Funeral services were held at Immaculate Conception Church in Wexford this Wednesday morning for James Kernan, 84, who passed away suddenly of a heart attack Sunday while visiting at the Joe delaney home nearby. He was spending the weekend with Allamakee relatives coming down from LaCrosse a day or two before. For the past several years he has made his home in the Gateway City with his daughter, Mrs. Harry Boardman.

He was born August 16th 1873 in Lafayette township, a son of Patrick Kernan and Bridget Mooney and in 1902 was married to Mary Shields. They farmed for many years and were the parents of five daughters and three sons. His wife preceded him in death about twenty years ago. Left to mourn the passing of a kind and indulgent father are Mrs. Joe McMahon, Mrs. Ray Cahalan, Mrs. Chester Farley, and Mrs Meldred May besides the above mentioned daughter; three sons, Cyril and Vincent of Yakima, Wash., and John of Minneapolis. Other immediate survivors are four brothers, Joe and Steve of Wexford, Mike of Meservey and Tom, of Minneapolis. Two brothers, Pat and Simon, and two sisters, Mrs. Max Niblock and Mrs. John Delaney, preceded him in death. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters of the Harpers Ferry court.

Funeral arrangements were in charge of the Burke Funeral Home and the Mass of Requiem was offered by the resident pastor, Father Joseph Krocheski who said the final prayers at the gravesite in the adjoining cemetery. Casket bearers were Gerald Mooney, Gerald Kernan, John and Eldred Delaney, John Hennessey and Ray Hawes.
