Postville Herald, Thursday, 10 February 1921.
John Dietrich Schultz was born October 1, 1845, at Wendisch Weningen, Mecklenberg Schwerein, Germany. On March 17, 1876, he was united in marriage with Minna Wilke; and on July 4, 1884, they emigrated to America, locating at Postville, Iowa, which has been their home continuously since until September of last year, when physical infirmities so weakened his once rugged frame that he and his wife moved to Decorah to make their home with an adopted daughter, Mrs. Frieda Nalli, where he passed away at seven o'clock last Sunday evening.
Mr. Schultz was an honest and industrious citizen, was at one time city marshal of Postville and for a number of years served as street commissioner and was always a faithful worker. He was also a faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran church of this city and for a number of years was a member of the church council.
The remains were brought to Postville by train Monday afternoon where funeral services were held from the Lutheran church, conducted by Rev. E. Schmidt, after which all that was mortal of a good neighbor, citizen and friend was laid to rest in Postville cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, his adopted daughter, Mrs. Frieda Nalli of Decorah, and three brothers, Carl and August of Postville, and Wm. G. Schultz of Pequot, Minn., and one sister, Mrs. Fritz Rentzmann of Postville.
In this connection the family wish to express their heartfelt thanks to the many old friends for their assistance in laying to rest their beloved husband and father.
The following out of town relatives were here to attend the funeral: Carl Behrend, Madison, Wis.; Fritz Seeland of Cresco; Henry Walter of Luana.
