Mary M. Hammell

Mary Margaret Hammell, 86, died Wed., April 10, 2002, in her home in Waukon.

Funeral services were held April 14, 2002, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon, with Fr. Allen Schmidt, Fr. Bill Bamber, and Fr. Ed Lechtenberg officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Lycurgus. Hanson's Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Mary Hammell was born March 4, 1916, to Joe and Mary (Whalen) Wagner in rural Lansing. She married John Hammell April 17, 1940, at Immaculate Conception Church, Wexford. They lived in Allamakee County.

Mary was active in the community as a 4-H leader, member of the church Rosary Society, and unit leader at Lycurgus.

She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Danny; 2 sisters, Helen Peters and Marguerite Wagner, and a brother, Nick Wagner.

Survivors include her daughter, Margaret (Peggy) Martin; 2 sisters, Ann Callahan and Rita Barry; 12 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Dave Martin, Kevin Martin, Ryan Hammell, Tristan Hammell, Jim Regan, Linus Hammell, Roger Hammell, Donny Peters, and Larry Mauss.
