Hardin Native Dies In The East
Mrs. Lois Willoughby Stillman of Westerly, Rhode Island, well known newspaperwoman and publicity writer for many years, died at her home August 6. She had been in ill health since suffering a stroke 3 years ago.
Born Lois Willoughby Tuttle in Hardin, she was the daughter of Maria E. Willoughby and Chauncey P. Tuttle. She was married to Edwin B. Stillman in 1919.
Mrs. Stillman's long career as a journalist began around 1911 when she went to New York to work on New York newspapers writing society features. For many years she was press agent for Mme. Frieda Hampel, one of the great German sopranos of opera and concert during the "Golden Age" of the Metropolitan Opera and thus traveled the United States and Europe and to a White House concert given by Mme. Hempel (sic) during the Franklin D. Roosevelt administration.
The only immediate survivor is Helen M. Tuttle of Postville who has been making her home with Mrs. Stillman during her illness.
Services were Friday, August 9 at Christ Church, Westerly, Rhode Island, with interment in River Bend Cemetery there.
