Chris F. Meier, 65, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Meier of this city, passed away in Miles City, Montana, Sunday according to word received here, and funeral services were held at Farmersburg Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock at the opera house with burial in the cemetery there.
Mr. Meier was born at Farmersbug July 28, 1874, the son of Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Meier and came to this community when still a small boy, living first on a farm with his paretns and then in Postville. Here he attended the public schools and graduated from high school after which he attended the State University of Iowa.
For a number of years he conducted a furniture and dry goods store at Farmersburg and then was elected county treasurer of Clayton county in which office he served for eight years, before going to Ismay, Mont. and later to Miles City, in which latter place he was engaged in the grocery business.
He was married to Claudia Hinsch at Farmersburg, who together with one daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Moore of Los Angeles, Calif., and two grandchildren survive. Three sisters and one brother also survive, namely, Mrs. Amanda Phillips, Miss Irene Meier and George J. Meier, all of Postville, and Mrs. F.L. Eaton of Bellflower, Calif.
