Joseph Keiser, a well known resident of this locality for many years, died at Mapleton, KS, on Sunday, 9 Oct., of injuries received at Fort Scott, KS, the morning prior. He was standing on a platform at the Missouri Pacific Railway station at Fort Scott, KS, when an incoming engine struck a baggage truck that had been placed to close to the track, hurling it with terrible force and striking him, causing serious injury. The train carried him to Mapleton where he died of his injuries his only words being "Take me back to Postville". His last words were complied with, the remains arriving here last Saturday accompanied by relatives.

Joseph Keiser was born August of 184?, in Dearborn county, IN, and died at Mapleton, KS, 9 Oct. 1910, aged 68 years, 2 months and 4 days. He came with his parents to Iowa in 1852, living near Luana until the parents death, at which time he settled at Hardin and engaged in farming. He retired about 22 years ago and has since made Postville his home. He is survived by two brothers, Samuel of Corvallis, OR, and Rudolph of Omaha, NE.

Mr. Keiser was a quiet and unassuming man who had no enemy and his passing will be regretted by his many acquaintances and friends of this locality, where he was for many years a highly respected citizen.

The funeral was held from the Congregational church of this city Sunday morning last, Rev. F. W. Pease officiating. Interment in Luana cemetery.

Those from afar attending the funeral were: Rudolph Keiser of Omaha, NE; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dahlmann of West Boro, MO; R. M. Hills of Mapleton, KS; Mr. and Mrs. John S????? of Watson; Mr. and Mrs. J. Q. Rupp and mother of Monona.
