John Conley was born at Monona, Iowa, May 7, 1856, and died April 7, 1921, at Wessington Springs, South Dakota, aged 65 years and 11 months. His early life was spent at Monona and on a farm near Postville until the age of thirty years, when he went to Wessington Springs and settled on a farm near that place, where he lived until his death. He leaves to mourn his loss three brothers and two sisters. His father, mother, two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

John will be remembered by the older residents of this locality as a straight forward young man of genial disposition, a man whom it was a pleasure to know, friendly and kindly disposed toward all.

On being appraised of his death, his brother Henry of this city went to Wessington Springs and had the body brought to Postville for burial. A brief funeral service was held from the home on Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. E. Schmidt. Interment in Postville cemetery.
