Mrs. Sophia Meyer, a lifelong resident of this community, passed away last Saturday evening at her home in this city. She was aged 76 years, 8 months and 21 days. She had been in failing health for the past several months. Funeral services are being held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at St. Paul's Lutheran church, with the Rev. F. R. Ludwig officiating and interment will be in Postville cemetery.

Mrs. Meyer was born as Sophia Stopperan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Stopperan, in Grand Meadow township on September 9, 1865. On February 23, 1885, she was united in marriage with Carl F. Meyer of Postville by the late Rev. J. Gass, then pastor of St. Paul's church. To this union five children were born, of whom four survive. Mr. Meyer passed away on October 26, 1921, and one son, Cevert, passed away several years ago.

Mrs. Meyer spent her entire lifetime in this community, moving from Grand Meadow township to her home in Postville in December, 1928. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church and took active part and interest in the affairs of that congregation.

She is survived by her four children, Matilda (Mrs. Wm. F. Baltz) of Postville; Victor Meyer of Monona; Malinda (Mrs. Henry Heusman) of Postville, and Glen Meyer of Postville. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three sisters, Mary (Mrs. Fred Bareis) of Castalia; Anna (Mrs. Louis Luebka) of Castalia; Louis (Mrs. Henry Bareis) of Cresco, and one brother, Fred Stopperan, of Postville.
