H. Huebner Passes On Friday. Had Been A Resident Here For Over 30 Years.
The passing of Charles H. Huebner at his home in this city on the afternoon of New Year's Day brought a pang of sorrow to all who knew this splendid gentleman, who was known to us all as an honorable upright and industrious man, a good friend, neighbor and citizen, a devoted husband and kind father.
Charles H. Huebner was born in Mechlenburg-Schwerin, Germany, August 20, 1864, and at the time of his passing was aged 72 years, four months and 11 days.
At the age of 20 years he came to this country, settling at Garnavillo.
December 10, 1886, he was married to Miss Hulda Seaman, who died in September, 1891. To this union were born three children.
Dec. 16, 1891, he was married to Mrs. Fred Miller of Elkader. They lived at Mederville for about a year and then moved to Elkader, later moving to the vicinity of Postville, where for a number of years they engaged in farming, and later moved to Postville, where for many years Mr. Huebner followed his trade of interior decorator.
Mr. Huebner was a member of St. Paul's church.
Fraternally he was affiliated with Brotherly Love Lodge No. 204, A.F. & A. M., of this city, of which he had been an honored member for the past thirty years.
Surviving besides the widow is one daughter, Mrs. John Gruel of Harvard, Illinois; four sons, Rudolph, Henry and Carl, all of Postville and George of Elkader; two step-sons, William Miller of Elgin and Fred J. Miller of Postville. There are also ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Two daughters and a son died in infancy.
Funeral services were held from the family home at 12:30 Monday afternoon, conducted by Dr. R. B. Garten. Interment was made in the cemetery at Elkader, with Masonic honors, R. R. Douglass of this city officiating for the local lodge.
