Rev. Christen Heltne, 75, died at 1 a.m. today in a Decorah, Ia., hospital after a long illness. He was the father of Paul Heltne, music co-ordinator of the Austin Public Schools.

Mr. Heltne was a pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church about 45 years. He had served churches in Washington, Texas and Iowa. His last pastorate before he retired to make his home in Decorah was in Waterloo Ridge, Ia. Burial will be in Waterloo Ridge.

Called to his bedside Monday evening, Mr. Heltne's wife and two sons were with him when he died this morning. Rev. Bernard Heltne, Bradley, S.D. is the other son.

Funeral services were held recently for the Rev. Christen Heltne, who served more than 35 years in the Decorah circuit as a pastor. A pastorate at Crane Creek's Immanuel Lutheran church was included in his more than 40 years in the ministry. The Rev. Haltne is survived by his wife and two sons, Paul, Austin, Minn., and the Rev. Bernard Heltne of Bradley, S.D. There are also three brothers.
