--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------.Frank Sherman Dies Suddenly.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------.
The people of Postville were shocked and sorrowed near the noon hour Monday when word was passed hurriedly about that Frank Sherman was dead, for few knew he was in other than his usual health. He was at the brickyard a week ago Monday, the day of the cyclone, and the day following helped to get things straightened out, but the excitement and overwork brought on an attack of heart trouble. His father came here from Monona and accompanied him to Rochester from which they returned Friday night. Frank was put to bed and a nurse secured and he seemed to be doing nicely, when of a sudden on Monday the vital spark went out and without a sign of struggle his wearied spirit crossed over the bar.
His parents, sister and other relatives came from Monona and the undertaker from that city prepared the body and conveyed it back to the parental home that evening.
Frank Theodore Sherman was born on a farm near Monona, Sept. 23, 1877, and died at his home in this city Monday, May 18, 1914, aged 36 years, seven months and 25 days. He was educated in the Monona schools and later took a course at Highland Park College, Des Moines. November 19, 1900, he was married to Miss Mate Jenkins of Monona, who with one son, Frank T., Jr., his venerable father and mother and sister, Blanche, mourn the loss of one who was ever a devoted and faithful husband and father, a dutiful son and affectionate brother.
In 1903 with his brother-in-law, L. N. Ernst, he bought the Monona brick yard and continued the business until it was sold to the Postville Clay Products Co. a few years ago, when he came to Postville and became foreman of the yard here, which position he held continuously since until his death, save for a period he laid off owing to impaired health.
He was a member of the M.W.A., M.B.A., and Masonic fraternities.
During his residency here he made friends of many. He was an honest, upright, industrious man and a good citizen whose untimely passing brings a pang of regret to all who knew this genial, affable gentleman, who measured well up to the full stature of a man.
The funeral was held at Monona Wednesday afternoon at 1:30, Rev. Geo. W. Meek conducting the service at the Congregational church and Chas. E. Scholz of Guttenberg conducting the service at the grave for the Masonic fraternity.
The following Masons from Postville were in attendance;
A.C. Webster, W.S. Webster, L.D.B. Hawkins, A.S. Burdick, J.M. Thoma, F.J. Thoma, Jas. Gregg, Frank Gates, Bert E. Tuttle, Henry Miller, Geo. Kohlmann, Ralph Tuller, C.P. Smith, R.F. Hecker, A.A. Schmidt, F.H. Eaton, D.E. Harrington.
