Carl Ludwig Wilhelm Baltz was born Feb. 21, 1856, at Ratter, Mecklenburg, Germany. October 13, 1882, he was united in marriage to Minnie Buelow, and the same year emigrated with his wife to this country and worked on a farm near Postville.

Six years later he took posession of a farm two miles north of Postville. In March 1914 he left this farm and moved to Postville where he resided until his death. After an illness of six weeks he departed this life at twelve o'clock, midnight, Monday, November 10. He is survived by his widow and three sons, namely, Wilhelm on a farm in Clayton county; August on the home farm, two miles north of Postville; and Fred on a farm near Postville. He leaves also three grandchildren. One daughter, Ida, preceded him in death fifteen years ago.

The deceased was a devoted husband and a loving father. He was a faithful member of St. Paul's congregation and always a regular attendant at devine services. For several years he served as vice-president of the congregation. Many of us have lost a good and true friend and neighbor, and we all will miss him, but what is our loss is his gain. He was aged 63 years, 8 months and 19 days.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 1:30 from St. Paul's Lutheran church, Rev. E. Schmidt officiating. Interment in the Postville cemetery.
