Funeral services for Charles Verdon, age 77, of Lansing, Iowa were held Monday, June 23 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing, Iowa with Father Daniel Knipper officiating. Burial was in Gethsemane Cemetery in Lansing, Iowa. Thornburg-Hanson Funeral Home in Lansing, Iowa assisted the family with the arrangements. Casket bearers were Neil Galema, Alex Galema, Mark Fink, Adam Klaren, Chris Klaren, and Jason Verdon. Honorary casketbearers were his nieces and nephews.

Charles, son of Joseph and Florence (Protsman) Verdon, was born November 4, 1925 in Lansing, Iowa. He attended Immaculate Conception grade school and Lansing Public High School. Charles worked for Oscar Meyer in Davenport, Iowa for twenty years before returning to Lansing, where he ran Verdon Rental, a boat rental and bait shop. He also sold Christmas trees for twenty years. After his retirement, he devoted himself to volunteer work. He served on the Thornton Manor Care Review Committee, Lion's Club, city council, Senior Citizen Meal Site, a charter member of "The Old Stone School Corp.", chairman of the "Small Boats Parade for Venetian Nights" and played Santa Claus for 35 years for the community. He loved children, family gatherings, doing things for others, "Old Man River", and the nickel slots on the boat.

After a courageous battle against cancer, Charles Verdon died at the home of his sister in Manchester, Iowa on Thursday, June 19, 2003. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Harold Verdon, Floyd Verdon, Dan Verdon, and Tom Verdon; brothers-in-law, Chet Fink and Dale Buehler; and sisters-in-law, Grace Verdon and Doris Verdon.

Charles is survived by his 3 siblings, Edith (James) Pitts of Spencer, Iowa, Vera Fink-Buehler of Manchester, Iowa, and Vince (Elaine) Verdon of Davenport, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Janet Verdon of Davenport, Iowa; 29 nieces and nephews.
