Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for Marguerite Mary Curran, age 100, of Lansing, Iowa were held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 19 at Immaculate Conception Wexford Church, rural Lansing, Iowa with Father Louis Trzil officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with arrangements made by Martin Funeral Home of Waukon, Iowa. Casket bearers were her 28 grandchildren: Tom, Mike, David, Nathan, Bill, Mary Ellen, Jim, John, Dan, Anne, Joan, Roger, and Nick Curran; Philip, Andrew, John, Tom, and Joe Soboleski; Virginia Gliszinski, Kathleen Protsman, Jane Martinez, Christine Nagus, Margaret Richardson, Sharon Literski, Sandra Olsen, Jean Balistreri, Trish Koeppel, and Nancy Leahy.
Marguerite Mary, daughter of John and Mary (Mooney) Bohrer, was born February 4, 1899 on the family farm in Wexford, rural Lansing, Iowa. Marguerite attended rural Lamb School in LaFayette Township, St.Collumbkille's School in Dubuque, Iowa, and finished normal training in Cedar Falls, Iowa where she received her teaching certificate. She taught rural school at the Oil Spring School near Harpers Ferry, Iowa, Ferring School on Dry Ridge, and French Creek School on Mays Prairie, both rural Lansing, Iowa. On June 8, 1921 she married William Curran at the ICC Wexford Church. For 60 years they lived on the Curran home farm and after Bill died in 1981, she continued to live there until 1992 when she became a resident of Thornton Manor in Lansing, Iowa. Marguerite was a member of ACCW,
Catholic Foresters, and Wexford Rosary Society, also serving as its treasurer.Marguerite Mary Curran died Saturday, July 17, 1999 at Thornton Manor Care Center in Lansing, Iowa. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, James Curran and William Curran; 5 infant children; 3 brothers, Bill Bohrer, Clem Bohrer, and the Rev. Raymond Bohrer; and 2 sisters, Florence Spinner and Roselle Williams.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann (Jerome) Soboleski of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin; 2 sons, Patrick (Shari) Curran of Lansing, Iowa, and Raymond (Virginia) Curran of Eagan, Minnesota; 2 daughters-in-law, Ann Curran of Lakeland, Florida and Norma Curran of Lansing, Iowa; 28 grandchildren, and 29 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Jeanette Langer of New Berlin, Wisconsin and Catherine McCarthy of Davenport, Iowa.
