Mellick, age 93, formerly of Waukon, Iowa, were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 19 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa with Father Karl Glovik officiating. Burial was in the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa with arrangements by Papich-Kuba Funeral service.
Leo J. Mellick, was a twin son born on July 3, 1906 near West Ridge in Allamakee County, Iowa to Michael and Julia (Duffy) Mellick. His twin brother was Frances "Frank" J. Mellick. Leo moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1945, moving from the Dubuque, Iowa area. On June 12, 1947 Leo married Laura Moore in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Laura died March 10, 1994. Leo was employed as a receiving clerk at Welch-Cook-Beals company and later as a guard at Iowa Manufacturing. Leo was a member of the Catholic Church, IOOF Lodge in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and was active in the Witwer Senior Citizens Center in Cedar Rapids, where he poured coffee for many years.
Leo J. Mellick died Friday, July 16, 1999 at Heritage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In addition to his wife, Laura, he was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, Mary Ryan, Margaret Howes, and Rita Nierling, and 3 brothers, his twin brother Frank Mellick, Donald Mellick, and Leonard Mellick.
Leo is survived by his five sisters, Loretta Collins, Regina Mahoney, and Marcella Johnson, her husband Melbourne Johnson, all of Waukon, Iowa, and Rosella Nierling and Pearl Weber, both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
