A lifetime area resident, Alvin, the son of James Willard and Charlotte Constance (Ericson) Aldrich, was born December 31, 1901 on the family farm in the Village Creek area of Allamakee County, Iowa. He attended Village Creek Elementary School and two years at the Waukon, Iowa High School. On March 9, 1932 he married Elizabeth Adelaide Lea at the Baptist parsonage in Waukon, Iowa. They farmed Idlenot farm near Churchtown, Iowa before moving to Waukon in 1967. He had been a school director at Churchtown rural school and was a member of the Farm Bureau, NFO, and Center Baptist Church where he had been a member for 55 years and a church trustee.

Alvin died Tuesday, December 19, 1989 at his home in Waukon, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Delbert Dorrell Aldrich, Richard Ruel Aldrich, and Isadore Imanuel Aldrich.

Alvin is survived by his wife; 3 sons, Alvin James Aldrich of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Donald Aldrich of Lansing, Iowa, and John Aldrich of League City, Texas; 2 daughters, Marilyn (Charles) Richard of Bitburg, Germany, and Constance Aldrich of Joliet, Illinois; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Charlotte Shogren of Waukon, Iowa, and 3 brothers, Lemuel Lorenzo Aldrich of Milaca, Minnesota, Hillard Harold Aldrich of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Rev. Sidney Surprise Aldrich of New York.

NOTE: This transcriber posted the obituary for Lemuel Lorenzo Aldrich, 1903-1990, on the Allamakee County Obituary board on August 1, 2011. Lemuel's obituary did not list Alvin Aldrich, as a brother preceding Lemuel in death or as a surviving brother. I double checked the newspaper clipping, thinking that perhaps, I had omitted the name of Alvin Aldrich as preceding Lemuel Aldrich in death.
