Funeral services for Nora Hansmeier, age 93, of Waukon, Iowa, were held Tuesday, September 11 at 2 p.m. at Martin Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Chris Clarkson officiating. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery. Casket bearers were John Hansmeier, Kenneth Roshon, Gilman Kolsrud, Matt Lund, Theodore Johnson, and Hjalmer Olson.

Nora, daughter of Matthias and Anna (Geving) Johnson, was born May 15, 1897 in Paint Creek Township, Allamakee County, Iowa. She attended rural Allamakee County schools. On December 10, 1921, she married Leonard Hansmeier in Waterville, Iowa. He died March 16, 1980.

Nora and Leonard were both instrumental in establishing the Waukon Senior Citizens Club. He was named to the Iowa Volunteer Hall of Fame in October of 1989.* See note below* Both volunteered many hours working to restore the old court house into the county museum and serving as guides when the county museum opened for weekend tours. The two of them were accomplished musicians. Nora played the accordian and Len played the bass. They and several others played for dances and benefits. They also played for programs at the Good Samaritan Center and other organizations for many years. She was a member of the Wa-Tan-Ye Club.

Nora died Saturday, September 8, 1990 at the Good Samaritan Center where she had been a resident. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her 4 brothers, John Johnson, Melvin Johnson, Albert Johnson, and Bernhart Johnson; and 2 sisters, Ida Lund and Bertha Olson.

Nora is survived by a son, Robert LaVern Hansmeier of Rochester, Minnesota; 4 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Selma Frink of Waukon, Iowa and Martina Stadsvold of Starbuck, Minnesota.
