Funeral services for R. Emmet Cahalan, age 79, of Urbandale, Iowa were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 22 at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Father Thomas Crowley officiated. Burial was in Glendale Cemetery with Dunn's Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Emmet Cahalan was born May 1, 1911 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Eugene J. and Emma V. (Cota) Cahalan. He married Evelyn Gavin. For many years he farmed near Waukon, Iowa. After retiring in 1973, he lived in Waukon, Iowa until 1978 when he moved to Des Moines, Iowa to be closer to his children.

R. Emmet Cahalan died Wednesday, September 19, 1990 at Calvin Manor in Des Moines, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn of Urbandale, Iowa; 4 sons, Dr. Arthur B. Cahalan and Dr. Robert E. Cahalan, both of Des Moines, Iowa, Charles Cahalan of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Denny Cahalan of Omaha, Nebraska; 2 daughters, Debbie Doyle of Des Moines, Iowa and Elaine Hollensbee of Gladstone, Missouri; 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; a sister, Annabell Reifenstahl of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and a brother William "Bill" Cahalan of Las Vegas, Nevada.
