Funeral services for Alvin John Meyer, age 81, of Waukon, Iowa, were held Monday August 13 at St. Luke's United Church of Christ in Eitzen, Minnesota. Dr. Irwin Young conducted the 11 a.m. services. Burial was in the church cemetery with Martin Funeral Home of Waukon in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Berdell Meiners, Donald Meiners, Duane Deters, Lyle Meyer, Gerald Meyer, and Merrill Deters.

Alvin John Meyer, son of August and Augusta (Deters) Meyer, was born April 16, 1909 in Dorchester, Iowa. He attended rural schools in the Dorchester area. His first wife, Evelyn, whom he married July 18, 1939, died October 27, 1943. *The obituary did not list her maiden name.* On October 4, 1949 he married Margaret Wenig at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He was a member of St. Luke's Church, Waukon Lions Club, and a former member of the Board of Directors of the Eitzen Creamery and the Allamakee County Election Board.

Alvin died Thursday, August 9, 1990 at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Evelyn, 3 sisters, Sarah Deters, Elizabeth Meyer, and Martha Meyer, and 2 brothers, Otto Meyer and Clarence Meyer.

Alvin is survived by his wife, Margaret; a daughter, Janice (Dennis) Lamport of Indianola, Iowa; 2 sons, John Meyer of Dorchester, Iowa and Gordon Meyer of Jackson, Mississippi; 9 grandchildren; 3 sisters, Ruth (Martin) Deters and Flora Meiners, both of Eitzen, Minnesota, and Margaret (Robert) Martin of Chehalis, Washington.
