Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for John Henry Baumgartner, age 90, of Waukon, Iowa were held Saturday, September 22 at 1:30 p.m. at Salem United Church of Christ with the Rev. Elsa Marsland officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with Martin Funeral Home of Waukon, Iowa in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were David Honn, Clark Bulman, Gary Greg Bulman, Dennis Baumgartner, John C. Baumgartner, Darrell Baumgartner, Neal Baumgartner, Richard Baumgartner, Randall Flage, Larry Flage, Lanny Flage, and Leslie Flage.
John Henry Baumgartner was born in Laverne, Humboldt County, Iowa on December 8, 1899, the son of John and Marie (Richager) Baumgartner. His early childhood was spent in Laverne. The family moved to Humbird, Wisconsin where he attended school. In 1918 he moved to Allamakee County, Iowa and on September 8, 1921 he married Florence Martha Snitker. He was a farmer and served as an Allamakee County Supervisor from 1957 to 1975. He held several offices at Salem UCC where he was a member.
John died Thursday, September 20, 1990 at Northgate Care Center in Waukon, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Norman, who died in 1931, a granddaughter, Kimberley Bulman, and a brother Harry Baumgartner.
He is survived by his wife, Florence Baumgartner of Waukon, Iowa; 4 daughters, Marietta (Albert) Flage of Gainesville, Florida, Lorna (Edgar) Peoples of Springfield, Virginia, Alice (Gary) Bulman, and Linda (Merle) Honn, both of Waukon, Iowa; a son, Robert Baumgartner of Waukon, Iowa; 24 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and a great-great granddaughter; 2 brothers, Walter Baumgartner of Colby, Wisconsin, and William Baumgartner of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
