Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for Agnes Viola Pladsen, age 77 of Waukon, Iowa were held Thursday, February 15 at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Lynn Groe officiating. Burial was in the Old East Paint Creek Cemetery with Martin funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Roger Pladsen, Arlyn Pladsen, Cletus Pladsen, John Pladsen, Ronald Adams, and Harold Tuchel. Honorary pallbearers were Leona Butler, Dorothy Olson, Helen Barth, Ruby Olson, Bernice Knudtson, and Lillian Chrisitianson.
Agnes Viola was born July 16, 1912 in LaFayette Township, Allamakee County, Iowa to Theodore and Oline (Hunstad) Pladsen. She attended Prairie School in rural Allamakee County and graduated from Waterville High School. After high school she moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota where she worked for four years at 3M Company. She worked in a bakery in Phoenix, Arizona for 11 years and moved back to LaFayette Township in 1941 to care for her parents. She moved to Waukon, Iowa in 1965. She was a member of St. John's Church and its Martha Circle, Neighborhood Club and women's groups at Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church where she was baptized and confirmed.
Agnes died Monday February 12, 1990 at the Good Samaritan Center where she had been a resident for the last month. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph Pladsen, Wallace Pladsen, and Melvin Pladsen, and a sister, Rosella Tuberty.
She is survived by her 4 sisters, Alphild (Kenneth) O'Brien, Carrol Kiesau, and Mavis Cook, all of Waukon, Iowa and Valborg Adams of LaPorte, Indiana.
