Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)A memorial service was held Saturday, September 8 for Richard Neil Russett of Phoenix, Arizona, formerly of the Luana and Postville, Iowa areas. He died September 5, 1990 at a Scottsdale, Arizona hospital. Rev. Terrance Hennesy conducted the 2 p.m. services at Community Presbyterian Church in Postville, Iowa. Schutte Funeral Service of Postville, Iowa was in charge of arrangements.
Richard was born September 7, 1933 on a farm near Waukon, Iowa to Oscar and Laura (Snitker) Russett. He attended rural schools near his home and graduated from Luana High School. He received a bachelor's degree from Luther College and a master's degree in Latin from the University of Iowa. He attended the University of North Dakota for a degree in administration. On August 26, 1961 he and Mabel Hendrickson were married. He served two years in the Army and was stationed in West Germany. He began teaching in Havelock, Iowa where he taught English and coached girls' basketball. He was principal at Wheaton, Minnesota. After retiring from teaching, he lived in Minneapolis, Minnesota where he was affiliated with the Readers Digest and was in the real estate business. Later he moved to Phoenix where he continued in the real estate business.
He was preceded in death by a brother Ronald Russett.
He is survived by a daughter, Maree of San Diego, California, a son Zane Russett of Las Vegas, Nevada; his parents, Oscar and Laura Russett of Monona, Iowa; a brother Roger (Mary Jane) Russett of Postville, Iowa and a sister, Cheryl (Rick) Chapin of Billings, Montana.
