Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for Hilda Brandsmeier, age 79, of rural Waukon, Iowa were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Ed Lechtenberg officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Lynn Stock, Lyle Stock, Donus Dee, Jack Marsden, John Dougherty, and Peter Bieber. Honorary pallbearers were LaVon and Melvin Steffenson, Irene and Robert Stock, and Carol and Henry Miene.
Hilda Elizabeth Brandsmeier was born August 31, 1911 near St. Lucas, Iowa to Henry and Clara (Rausch) Hackman. She attended St. Lucas schools. On February 9, 1953 she and Carl F. Brandsmeier were married at St. Patrick's Church in Waukon, Iowa. Carl died July 28, 1988. She continued to farm after his death. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church and its Rosary Society.
Hilda died Friday, March 8, 1991 at Veterans Memorial Hospital. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Hackman.
Survivors include four sisters, Rose Hackman of Waucoma, Iowa, Hilaria Kipp of Festina, Iowa, Leona Winter of St. Lucas, Iowa and Dolora (Julian) Sabelka of Lawler, Iowa; 2 brothers, Adolph Hackman of Decorah, Iowa and Hugo Hackman of Ft. Atkinson, Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews; and two sisters-in-law, Lois Brandsmeier and Mildred Brandsmeier, both of Waukon, Iowa.
