Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services were held Saturday, December 12 at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church, rural Waterville, Iowa for Cora Adeline Lier, age 84, who died Wednesday, December 9, 1998 at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa. Pastor Ken Kimball conducted the 2 p.m. services. Burial was in the church cemetery with arrangements by Martin Funeral Home. Casket bearers were Duane, Chad, and Brad Dee, Rich and Rob Johnson, Bob, Ross, and Jamie Lier. Honorary pallbearers were Tammy Vaverka, Melissa Johnson, Mikki Stegen, Melanie Fossum, and Christy McMillan.
Cora Adeline was born October 2, 1914 to Sever and Selma (Frok) Kolsrud on their rural Waterville, Iowa farm. She attended the Waterville School. On August 15, 1934 she married Joseph Lier at the St. John's Lutheran parsonage in Waukon, Iowa. They farmed in rural Waterville until 1963 when they moved into Waterville, Iowa. Cora sold Avon products for a time and worked as a cook at the Waterville School from 1968-1984. She was an active member of the Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church where she was a former president of the Ladies Aid and for many years was a Sunday School Teacher. Cora was also a member of the Golden Girls Card Club. In February of 1997 she became a resident of the Northgate Care Center in Waukon, Iowa.
Cora was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, an infant daughter, Janet Lier, and one brother Harris Kolsrud.
She is survived by her 2 daughters, Bonnie (Wayne) Johnson of Waukon, Iowa and JoAnn (Jim) Holder of Des Moines, Iowa; 2 sons, Bob (Jacquie) Lier of Shelbyville, Kentucky and Randy (Joanne) Lier of Waterville, Iowa; 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
