Beneta Olga Bechtel, age 91, of Lansing, Iowa died Friday, November 25, 1998 at Thornton Manor Care Center in Lansing, Iowa. Funeral services were held Saturday, November 28 at 1 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Lansing with the Rev. Tom Mattson officiating. Burial was in the Lansing Ridge Cemetery with arrangements by Burke-Thornburg Funeral Home.

Beneta Olga was the daughter of Benjamin and Anna (Englehorn) Decker, born on June 15, 1907 in Churchtown, Allamakee County, Iowa. She attended school in Churchtown and graduated from the Lansing High School in 1925. She planned to continue her education but when her father became sick, she was needed to help in his general store located in Churchtown. She grew up next door to Theodore "Tade" Bechtel and in 1927 they were married at the German parsonage in Lansing, Iowa. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Lansing, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tade, and her sister Esther Marti.

Beneta is survived by a son, Richard (Jean) Bechtel of Newport Beach, California and a daughter, Alice (Ken) Hanson of Lansing, Iowa; 5 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Irene Steiber of Lansing, Iowa.
