Harold John Ashbacher, age 95, of Waukon, Iowa died Thursday, December 10, 1998 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wisconsin of injuries sustained in a car accident Friday, December 4. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 14 at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Larry Olson officiating. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Randy Kruger, Stan Ritchey, Ross Ashbacher, Daryl Ashbacher, Dale Buntrock, and Richard H. Ashbacher. Honorary bearers were Andrea Ashbacher, Rhesa Ashbacher, Kerstan Lincoln and Lisa Lincoln.

Harold was born August 12, 1903 in the French Creek area of rural Lansing, Iowa. He was the son of John and Hannah (Munz) Ashbacher. He attended rural elementary school and graduated from the Waukon High School. He farmed in the French Creek area until moving to Waukon, Iowa in 1974. Harold also sold Pioneer Seed Corn, did carpentry work and was a surveyor for the ASCS office.

He married Louise Scharping at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Following her death, Harold married Cora (Gelo) Carlson on June 25, 1974 in Waukon, Iowa. After Cora died, he married Lorna (Kruger) Winke on April 14, 1989 at Salem United Church of Christ, rural Waukon, Iowa. Harold was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Farm bureau, and Waukon Senior Citizens.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; his two wives, Louise and Cora; his sister, Ethel Ashbacher, and 3 brothers, Urban Ashbacher, Milton Ashbacher, and Clarence Ashbacher.

He is survived by his wife, Lorna; 2 daughters, Arlene (Dick) Ritchey of Fountain, Colorado and Dorothy (Harvey) Lincoln-Smith of Scottsdale, Arizona; 3 sons, John (Darlain) Ashbacher of Waukon, Iowa, Richard (Carol) Ashbacher of Davenport, Iowa and Ronald Ashbacher of Topeka, Kansas; his brother, Nathan (Marion) Ashbacher of Saylorsburg, Pennsylvania; 4 step-daughters, Ruby (Al) Haugsted of Lincoln, Nebraska, Sheryl (Roger) Peterson of Waukon, Iowa, Marcia (Gary) Gustafson of Slater, Iowa, and Janine (Glen) DuCharme of McGregor, Iowa; 2 step-sons, Freddie (Lori) Kruger of Santa Maria, California and Randy (Teri) Kruger of Waukon, Iowa; 8 grandchildren and many other step-family members.
