Milo Harnack

Funeral services for Milo Harnack were held on Thursday, June 22, 2006, at United Pentecostal Church in Marathon, Iowa with Pastor Doug Enger and Pastor Richard White officiating. Organist was Madeline Reuter.

Milo Louie Harnack, the son of Louie and Mary Schroeder Harnack, was born September 28, 1925, in rural Postville, Iowa. He received his early education from rural Postville School. Milo entered the United States Army on August 29, 1952 in Des Moines, Iowa. While serving his country, Milo received the Korean Service medal, Bronze Service Stars, United Nations Service medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart, Silver Star and Greek Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart, Silver Star and the Greek Medallion from the King Of Greece. Milo was Honorably Discharged on May 28, 1954 at Camp Carson, Colorado.

On January 7, 1956, Milo married Barbara Joan McMeekan in Postville, Iowa. To this union a daughter, Marjorie, was born. Following their marriage they lived in the communities of Calmar, Mt. Pleasant, Storm Lake, Alta and Marathon. Milo farmed in his earlier years before working for 25 years for the Iowa Department of Transportation. Following his retirement, Milo drove truck for Gillis Ag and HyLine. Milo also worked at Wal-Mart as a greeter. On September 25, 2001, Milo married Ruth Ogden in Rossie, Iowa. Following their marriage they resided in Gillette Grove, IA. Milo served as Chaplin for the V.F.W. Clay County Post #3159 of Spencer, was a member of the American Legion Glen Pederson Post #1 of Spencer, and was a lifetime member of the Order Of The Purple Heart and V.F.W.

On June 18, 2006, Milo passed away at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 80. He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Barbara, brothers: Orville, Harlan and his twin brother, Merlin.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth of Webb, Iowa; his daughter and her husband, Marjorie Irene and Terry Nading of Marathon, Iowa; stepchildren Gene Pate and his wife Debbie, of Midlothian, VA, and Gloria Fitzpatrick and her husband Bob of Milford, IA; two nephews; one niece; as well as other relatives and many friends.

Casket bearers were Chris Jackson, Robert Smith, Wayne Markley, Marlin Harnack, Judy Harnack, and Clifford Harnack. Honorary casket bearers were Lee and Alyce Shatto. Military Services were provided by Marathon American Legion Post #12, VFW Clay County Post #3159, and American Legion Glen Pederson Post #1. Interment was at Poland Township Cemetery in Marathon, Iowa.
