Edna Harnack

Funeral services for Mrs. Edna Harnack were held Saturday, October 12, 1996 at 10:30 a.m. at the Schutte Funeral Home in Postville. The Rev. Wayne Hagen officiated. Burial was in the Postville cemetery.

Edna Marie Harnack, daughter of Frederick Christian and Marie Louise (Schult) Wilke was born November 19, 1897 in Hardin, near Luana. She died Wednesday, October 9 in the Good Samaritan Center at Postville. She was 98.

Mrs. Harnack was baptized May 1, 1898 by the Rev. Schuman and confirmed in 1912 by Rev. Kuhne, both at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. She attended the school near her home. On March 11, 1920 she was married to Lester Harnack. They had two daughters, Marjorie and Charlene. The couple farmed in Clayton County after their marriage and then moved to Postville in 1936. Mrs. Harnack became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in 1980.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lester who died in 1961, one brother William Wilke and four sisters, Ella Bruehahn, Nora Schroeder, Bertha, and Selma Johnson Neverman.

Surviving are her two daughters, Marjorie Mae (Bernold) Monroe of Postville and Charlene Jean (Edward) Casey of Alamo, Texas; five grandchildren, Barbara Clark, Margo (George) Nikodim, David (Linda) Monroe, Donna (John) Carlson and Dana (Fred) Moore; ten great grandchildren, Barry and Steve Hollan; Danny, Billy, Scott and Heather Clark; Anne, Amy and Katherine Monroe and Carrie Carlson; and four great great grandchildren.

Mrs. Harnack was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. She enjoyed caring for her family and liked to crochet and sew and work in her garden.

Casket bearers were Keith Johnson, Dwayne Johnson, Merlin Harnack, Dean Johnson, Dale Johnson and Richard G. Meyer.
