Lola R. Whetstine, age 89, died Thursday, October 2, 1986 at the Beverly Manor Care Center in Iowa City, Iowa after a short illness. Services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, October 6 at Callahan Funeral Home with burial in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City, Iowa. The Rev. Allen C. Eastland officiated.

Lola was born November 1, 1896 in Allamakee County, Iowa to George and Erdine (Atwood) Land. She attended Allamakee County schools and moved to Iowa City in 1917. She married Fred Oswald in 1919. On July 22, 1960 she married Anthony Whetstine in Iowa City, Iowa. He died June 22, 1982. She was employed by the University of Iowa laundry service until 1961 when she retired.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a grandson, a great grandson, two sisters, and her parents.

Survivors include a step-son, John Whetstine of Iowa City, Iowa; 2 daughters, Mrs. Vincent (Erdine) Northup of Iowa City, Iowa and Mrs. Dean (Ethel) Bebee of Springdale, Arkansas; 4 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 4 step-great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Dora Benson of Seattle, Washington and Grace Rage of Lake Forest, Illinois.
