Rites held for Lifelong Resident
Robert Burton Waters, 82, a lifelong resident of this community, passed away on Thursday morning at the Postville hospital following an illness of six weeks.
Funeral services were held Saturday morning in St. Bridget's Catholic church in this city, the requiem mass being sung by the pastor, Rev. Francis J. Vallaster. Interment was in St. Peter's cemetery at Clermont.
He was born near Frankville, Iowa, as the son of Samuel and Catherine Lyons Waters on May 23, 1869. When about 13 years of age he moved with his parents to a farm in Grand Meadow township south of Postville. His education was acquired in the grade schools in both localities after which he engaged in farming.
On June 7, 1893, he was married to Mary Ann McKinley in St. Peter's Catholic church in Clermont. They farmed until 1938 when they retired and moved to Postville. His wife preceded him in death in 1946.
Surviving are six sons and two daughters: Bernard, Clement, Ambrose, Bertie, and Paul all of Postville, and Louis of Des Moines, Mrs. Marie Leui, and Mrs. W. A. (Helen) Kneeland Waters of Postville. He is also survived by four sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Lowe, Santa Barbara, California; Mrs. Susan Marston, Earlham; Mrs. Jennie McKinley, Iowa City; and Mrs. J. A. (Kate) Peck, Decorah; and four brothers, Samuel, Council Bluffs; Wallace and Chris, Decorah; and Calvin, Des Moines, 19 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
One son Leonard, one grandson, Robert Kneeland, and three half brothers, George, Thomas, and William preceded him in death.
