Pioneer Resident Dies Sunday At New Albin
Alice Ameilia Sheriff was born April 27th, 1869, at New Albin, a daughter of John Sheriff and Evelyn Sherwood her entire life being passed in Allamakee County and vicinity. Following her education in the rural schools in the community on April 19th 1886 Dorchester she was married to John Burroughs who with nine of their children will mourn the loss of a kind and loving wife and mother. She was always a favoritte with the children whom she loved and will be missed by a host of other relatives and friends since here death came suddenly from a heart attack on Sunday, Oct. 8th. in her home in New Albin. She had been sick over a period of years.
Surviving children include William and Lawrence, of New Albin; Harvey and Vinton; Jesse, Caledonia, Minn.; Manford, New Hartford; Mrs. Henry (Eva) Schultz, Dorchester; Mrs. Charles (Lydia) Parker, Calif.; Mrs. J. (Alice) Creasy, Santa Marie, Calif., Mrs. John (Minnie) O'Hara, Postville. Other immediate survivors include three brothers, Jim Sheriff, New Albin; Joe Reeder, Waukon; Laff Sheriff, Indianapolis, Ind.; Mrs. William Wiemerslage, Cedar Rapids; grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren.
Deceased was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Joseph's Church, New Albin where the Mass of Requiem was offered this (Wednesday) morning with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Henry Scharphoff officiating and saying the final prayers at the graveside in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Casket bearers were Raymond and Wilford Schultz, Robert and Delmar Burroughs, Merlin and Forrest Sires.
