Schultz, age 63, of Arcadia, Wisconsin and formerly of the Caledonia, Minnesota and New Albin, Iowa area, were held Wednesday, March 23 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Caledonia, Minnesota. The Rev. Joseph Cashman officiated and burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Caledonia, Minnesota.
James died Monday March 21, 1988 in the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Tomah, Wisconsin. He was born September 4, 1924 in Caledonia to Michael and Hilda (Freilinger) Schultz. On September 16, 1947 he married Lois Steele in Caledonia, Minnesota. He farmed in Winnebago Valley, Houston County from 1947 to 1957 and later worked as a meat inspector for the Department of Agriculture in Arcadia and Whitehall, Wisconsin, and Dubuque, Iowa until he retired in 1986. He was an Army Veteran of World War II, having served in the 30th Division of the 117th Infantry. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a member of the New Albin Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Tickfer-Erickson American Legion Post 17 of Arcadia, Wisconsin.
Survivors are his wife; 5 sons, Ronald Schultz of Buffalo City, Wisconsin, Robert Schultz of Mondovi, Wisconsin, Dennis, Steven, and James Schultz, Jr., all of Arcadia, Wisconsin; a daughter, Linda Papenfuss of Dubuque, Iowa; 6 grandchildren and 2 step-grandchildren; his mother,Hilda Schultz; a sister, Margaret Colsch of Dorchester, Iowa, and 2 brothers, Bill Schultz and Ray Schultz of Caledonia, Minnesota.
