John Hansmeier

Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 20 for John Elmer Hansmeier at Salem United Church of Christ, rural Waukon, with burial in the church cemetery. Dr. Elsa Marsland officiated at the 2 p.m. service. Martin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

John died Friday, Aug. 17 at the age of 94 at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon.

The son of Herman and Louise Klepper Hansmeier, he was born April 19, 1896 in Ludlow Township of Allamakee County.

He attended rural schools in the county through the eighth grade. December 14, 1922 he was united in marriage with Helen Adam in Allamakee County.

He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ.

John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Louise, who died July 25, 1979; three sisters, Mattie Adam, Esther Fiet and Emma Stock, and two brothers, Elmer and Reuben.

Survivors include a son Merlin of rural Postville; a sister Dorothy Haugen of Decorah; two grandchildren, Beverly Schnuelle of Castalia and Wayne Hansmeier of Ridgeway, and four great-grandchildren.

Serving as casket bearers were Robert and Richard Hansmeier, Arnold Ludeking, Marvin Adam, DuWayne Snitker and Calvin Henning.
