Hannah Houser

Hannah Gladys Houser, 88, of Clermont, died June 1 at Palmer Memorial Hospital in West Union. She was a former Postville resident.

Hannah Gladys Nelson (christened Johannah Gunda Nielsen) was born June 18, 1890 at Ringstadt, Denmark, the daughter of John and Christina (Sorensen) Nelson. Her parents came to the United States when Hannah was six months old and settled in the Quasqueton area. She received her education in the rural schools of the Quasqueton and Winthrop area. She married Albert Houser on March 9, 1910 and to this union one daughter, Dolores, was born. They farmed in the Jesup area until retiring to Postville in 1960. Hannah moved to Clermont in June of 1975.

She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Sophia Hull of Jasper, Ark., one grandson, John Bennett of Clermont, three granddaughters: Joann Bennett of Laguna Beach, Calif., Mrs. Duane (Joyce) Schott of West Union, and Jane Bennett of Cedar Rapids, six great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, Dolores Bennett, two grandchildren, one great grandson and two brothers, Harvey and LaVern Nelson.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 5 at 1:30 p.m. at the Schutte Funeral home in Postville. The Rev. William J. Tjaden officiated. Burial was in God's Acre Cemetery at Clermont.
