Leonard "Shorty" Cleone Crawford was born on February 11, 1920, to Irving and Alma (Leer) Crawford. He died on August 13, 1994. He was 74 years old.
Leonard was baptized and confirmed in the Frankville Presbyterian Church, and later joined Glenwood Lutheran Church. He attended the Frankville school and graduated from Postville High School.
He entered the Army in October of 1941 and served as a sergeant in the military police until he was honorably discharged in 1945.
On September 15, 1946, Leonard married Iona Rocksvold at First Lutheran Church, Decorah, Iowa. To this union a son, Darrel, was born.
Leonard farmed for many years. He also worked Holland Brothers and later Szabo Construction until the time of his death. He served on the Frankville School Board and the Frankville Cheese Factory Board for many years and was a volunteer fireman for thirty years. Leonard was a member of the Luren Mens Chorus for twenty years, a member of the American Legion at Postville and also of the Glenwood church choir. He was known to many as "Shorty." His wit and humor will be missed by many.
Preceding him in death were his parents. surviving him are his wife, Iona, a son, Darrel and his wife, Mary. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Stacy Ann and Christopher Kyle.
Services were held on Wednesday, August 17, 1994 at Glenwood Lutheran Church. Rev. Jim Jensen officiated. The organist was Michael Elsbernd. The soloist was Kenneth Timmerman.
Casket bearers were Rick Hughes, Gary Brockway, Myrl Dean Dickman, Faye Ward, Orin Ehrie and Milton Hove. Honorary pallbearers were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Balk, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Nimrod, Mr. and Mrs. Grant Grinna, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Brandt, Mr. and Mrs. Milt Schutte, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Laterman, Mr. and Mrs. Quintin Quandahl and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rechsteiner. The French Funeral home was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in Glenwood East Cemetery. The Luren Singers sang a Norwegian song at the committal service.
