John A. Sivesind - 1905-1988

Funeral services have been set for Friday, May 13 for John A. Sivesind, age 82 or rural Waukon, Iowa. He died Monday, May 9, 1988 at Veterans Memorial Hospital, Waukon. The 11 a.m. services will be held at St.John's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Lynn Groe officiating. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers are Danny Sivesind, Holden Olson, David Sivesind, Dennis Sivesind, Gregg Sivesind, and Craig Grotegut. Honorary pallbearers are Carl Berge, LeRoy Schmidt, Roy Loven, Adolph Larson, Iver Spilde, Alvin Thompson, and Eugene Yohe.

John was born October 23, 1905 in Union Prairie Township to Ingeman and Caroline (Nash) Sivesind. He attended rural Allamakee County Schools and dairy short courses from Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa. On October 20, 1932 he married Olive Tolander at her home near Elon, Iowa. He had been a farmer, cow tester in Fayette and Allamakee Counties, and a painter/carpenter the last several years.

He was a lifetime area resident and a member of St.John's Lutheran Church where he held many church offices and taught Sunday School for many years. He was also a Farm Bureau member.

He was preceded in death by 2 children, Delores Ann and David Allen, in infancy; a grandson Darrell, and a brother Casper Sivesind.

Surviving are his wife, Olive; 3 sons, Gordon and Gene Sivesind, both of Decorah, Iowa and Frank Sivesind of Waukon, Iowa; a foster son, Richard Nelson of Decorah, Iowa; 4 daughters, Coreen, Mrs. Ken Troendle of Waukon, Iowa, Marian, Mrs. T.Hans Olson of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Alice, Mrs. David Terbeest of Canton, Minnesota, and Ann, Mrs. James Kvam of Charleston, South Carolina; 25 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; a brother, Milton Sivesind of Tempe, Arizona and a sister, Clarice Snitker of Waukon, Iowa.
