Funeral services were held Monday, July 20 for Marlys "Jean" Petersen, age 50, who died Saturday, July 18, 1987 at her home in southwest Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The 11 a.m. services were held at Turner Chapel West in Cedar Rapids with Dr. Richard Newhall of St.Paul's United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids officiating. Burial was in Keystone City Cemetery, Keystone, Iowa. Casket bearers were her husband Ray Petersen, Bud Hilleshiem, Larry Holland, Rick Petersen, Rusty Bowers, Gary Nosek, and Mark Lauterwasser.

Jean was born October 8, 1936 in Waterville, Iowa to G.J. and Mabel (Frok) Hilleshiem. On July 23, 1955 she married Merle Ballhorn in Nashua, Iowa. He died March 19, 1979. On June 20, 1986 she married Ray "Pete" Petersen in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She worked for the Square D company for 22 years.

Survivors include her husband Pete, 2 daughters, Sharon Lauterwasser and Gayle Holland of Cedar Rapids; 2 grandchildren; a sister, Arlene Bowers of Center Point, Iowa and 4 brothers, Mervin and Roger Hilleshiem of Waterville, Iowa, LeRoy Hilleshiem of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Eldo Hilleshiem of Waterloo, Iowa.
