Vernie Stahl, age 80, of Lansing died Thursday, June 16, 1988 at Veterans Memorial Hospital, Waukon, Iowa. Funeral services were held Saturday, June 18 at United Methodist Church in Lansing, Iowa. The Rev. Tom Mattson conducted the 2 p.m. service and burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery with Burke-Thornburg Funeral Home of Lansing in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Mark, Randy, and Michael Stahl, Steve Mathis, Perry Fahey, and Bruce Strong.

Vernie was born January 14, 1908 near Rossville, Iowa to James and Amanda (Denning) Rush. She attended rural school. On December 14, 1927 she married Richard Stahl. Richard died April 7, 1985. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son in infancy, a daughter, Jean, and seven brothers and sisters, Ray, Leslie, Jess, Bessie, Caroll, Dewey, and Blanche Rush.

Surviving are six sons, Everett and Allan, both of Lansing, Iowa, Lester of Postville, Iowa, Robert of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Gary of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and George of Iowa City, Iowa; 3 daughters, Alice, Mrs. Merlin Strong of Iowa City, Iowa, Karen, Mrs. Jerry Mathis of Harpers Ferry, Iowa, and Loretta, Mrs. Norbert Strong of Lansing, Iowa; 33 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ethel Walters of Postville, Iowa.
