Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, November 11 for Julia A. Stone, age 89, who died Tuesday, November 8, 1988 at Mercy Health Care Center in Dubuque, Iowa. The Rev. Lynn Groe conducted the services held at Martin Funeral Home. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery. Casket bearers were Scott Nissen, Kenneth Glaus, William Ludovissy, Carl Herman, Darrell Stone, and Wayne Stone.

Julia was born October 1, 1899 in Vinton, Iowa to Thomas and Eliza Williams. On August 12, 1916 she married Herschel Stone in Caledonia, Minnesota. He died February 5, 1973. She had been a nurse's aid at Veteran's Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa and Mercy Hospital in Clinton, Iowa. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Waukon Senior Citizens and a volunteer worker at Allamakee County Care Facility. She enjoyed traveling, fishing, flowers, ceramics,crocheting and knitting.

In addition to her husband, she preceded in death by 5 children: Neil, Kenneth, William, Judy, and Marjorie Stone; 2 grandchildren and 12 brothers and sisters, Verna, Margaret, Alice, Myrtle, Alfred, John, Raymond, Thomas, Ernie, Frank, Earl, and Carl.

Surviving are 4 daughters, Mrs. Rita Murphy of Clinton, Minnesota, Jean, Mrs. Marshall Edmondson of Benton Harbor, Michigan, Mrs. Etta Dawson of Dubuque, Iowa and Georgia, Mrs. Leslie Glaus of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 2 sons, Donald Stone of Camanche, Iowa and Thomas Stone of Waukon, Iowa; 65 grandchildren, 74 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren.
