Clarence H. Schukei, age 88 of Waterloo, Iowa, formerly of Cedar Rapids, and Waukon, Iowa, died Monday, October 31, 1988 in American Health Care Center at Waterloo following a short illness. Services were held on Thursday, November 3 at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Cedar Falls, Iowa, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Clarence was born June 16, 1900 at Waukon, Iowa to Emil and Elizabeth (Meier) Schukei. He married Grace Athey on November 21, 1922 at Easton, Illinois. They were later divorced. He then married Betty Jean Annis on March 4, 1968 in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

He moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1920 and was general manager of Rude Auto Company from 1924 to 1930. He then purchased car dealerships in Mason City, Iowa and Waterloo. Schukei, in business for 48 years was President of Schukei Motor Co., Century Finance Co., Schukei Leasing, Inc., and Motorist Credit Insurance Co. He retired in 1980.

Clarence was director and treasurer of Iowa Auto Dealers Association, former president of Downtown Waterloo, Inc. and Sunnyside Country Club, and a member of Cedar Rapids Masonic Consistory, Cedar Rapids rotary Club and life member of El Kahir Shrine Temple. He also had served on the Alfred P.Sloan General Motors dealer committee, was a 50 year member of Waterloo Elks Club, named to the Iowa State Softball Hall of Fame at Cedar Rapids in 1974 and named Waterloo Person of the Year in 1959.

Survivors include his wife, a son, Robert Schukei of Mason City, Iowa; a daughter, Janice Hahn of Waterloo, Iowa; 2 step-sons, Tom Annis and Scott Annis, both of Denver, Colorado; a step-daughter, Amy Beckmann of Longmont, Colorado; a brother Leonard Schukei of Mabank, Texas; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
