Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services will be held today, March 7 at 1:30 p.m. for Mabel Theresa Shogren of Waukon, Iowa. She died Saturday, March 4, 1989 at Northgate Manor Nursing Home. The services will be held at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Patterson officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemeteryy with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Lester and Vernon Shogren, Richard Sandry, James Hager, Ernie Lubahn, and Don Schon.
Mabel was born February 27, 1899 in Center Township, Allamakee County, Iowa to Joseph and Anna (Hirth) Sandry. She attended Churchtown School through the eighth grade. On March 3, 1920 she married Edwin E. Shogren. She was a lifetime area resident and a member of First Baptist Church. She was a pianist and organist at First Baptist and Center Baptist Churches, as well as women's groups in each church. She was also a former 4-H leader.
She was preceded in death by her husband, who died January 31, 1977; a brother Willard Sandry and 2 sisters, Antoinette Sires, and Elnora Feuerhelm.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. John(Arleen) Ahlstrom of Waukon, Iowa; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and three sisters, Luella Bieber of Manchester, Iowa, Lillian Erickson and Elsie Hager, both of Waukon.
