Dyrl Ludrick Porterfield, Jr.
Dyrl Ludrick Porterfield Jr. was born December 4, 1936, in Connellsville, Pennsylvania, to Dyrl and Margaret (Miller) Porterfield. He passed away December 6, 2010, in the emergency room at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa.
Dyrl graduated from the Edgewater High School in Orlando, Florida, in 1955 and joined the United States Navy in 1956. He served until 1959 as an intercommunication technician.
He followed friends to Postville and married Sharon Meyer in 1960. To this union four children were born. They later divorced. Dyrl worked 21 years at the Hygrade Foods Inc. as a butcher until it closed in 1981. He then worked as a butcher, electrician, bartender and as one of the last full service station attendants at Home Oil.
Dyrl was an avid sports fan and enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, the Pittsburg Steelers and pee-wee, high school and college wrestling.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Audrey Farmer, Postville; daughters, Jaci (Craig) Burns, Postville and Becky (Joe) Barlow, Clear Lake and one son, Brad (Marcie) Porterfield; two brothers, Robert (Martha) Porterfield, Jim (Sandy) Porterfield and one sister, Myrna (Jeff) Hilland all in Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Dyrl is preceded in death by his parents and one son, Joey.
Memorials may be directed to the Postville Ambulance Service.
Graveside Services will be held on Thursday, December 9, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Postville Cemetery in Postville, Iowa. The Pastor Lisa Schroeder will officiate.
Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Postville, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
