Ann M. Goepel of Waukon, age 97, passed away Friday, December 3, 2010. Services were held Wednesday, December 8 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon with Father Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial was at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon. Hanson Funeral Home of Waukon assisted the family with arrangements.
Ann was born May 26, 1913 in Union Prairie Township, the daughter of Joseph and Ellen (Ryan) McAneny. She graduated from Waukon High School and enjoyed bowling, golf and playing cards. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon.
Ann married Marlyn Goepel in Dubuque in May of 1936. In addition to living in Waukon, she lived for a time in Alaska. She worked as a pharmacy clerk and as a waitress at the Soda Grill in Waukon.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marlyn Goepel; her parents, Joseph and Ellen McAneny; and siblings William McAneny, Kathryn Herberger, Marie Zadrazil, Edward McAneny, Eileen McAneny, Alice Armstrong and Virginia LeMere.
She is survived by nieces Judy Kay Fischer of Cincinnati, OH and Kristina Bruno of Pompano Beach, FL; great-nieces Jackie Peichel of Minneapolis, MN, Katie Fischer of Midland, MI and Beckie Fischer of Chicago, IL; and great-nephew John Bruno of Milwaukee, WI.
Casketbearers were John Bruno, Robert Peichel, Mike Gallagher, Joe Cunningham, Dan Cunningham and Cletus Rooney.The Waukon Standard, December 15, 2010
