Howard Gene Halverson

Howard Gene Halverson, 72, of Oxford, Mississippi, formerly of Postville, Iowa, died Thursday, December 2, 2010 at Baptist Memorial Hospital North in Oxford, Mississippi.

Born in Postville, IA, Howard was a Project Leader with the US Forestry Service for over 30 years. A graduate of Postville High School, he received his Bachelor of Science at Iowa State University in Ames, IA and his Masters and PhD in Forestry at the University of Arizona in Tuscon, AZ. He was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Tupelo and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Halverson of Oxford; a daughter, Karina Halverson Cook and her husband, Tom of Atlanta, GA; a son, Howard Halverson of Greenville, SC and one grandchild, Kieran Cook of Atlanta, GA.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, December 6, 2010, at 2 p.m. at East Clermont Lutheran Church in rural Clermont, Iowa. The Rev. Ron Roberts will officiate.

Burial will follow in the East Clermont Lutheran Cemetery in rural Clermont, Iowa.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 6, 2010, at 1:30 p.m. until service time at East Clermont Lutheran Church in rural Clermont, Iowa.

Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Postville, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
