Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for Alma Gronlie, 89, were held April 17, 1989 at 2 p.m. in Washington Lutheran Church, rural Northwood, North Dakota. She died April 15, 1989. Pastor Chris Hallanger conducted the services. Burial was in the church cemetery with Bilden Arnett Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Alma was born December 11, 1899 in Waukon, Iowa Allamakee County to Brede Onsager and Gulbjord Holley. She moved to North Dakota at the age of 21 and married Ole Gronlie December 29, 1929 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. They farmed in Pleasant View Township until retiring in 1954 when they moved to Northwood. He died July 4, 1979. She became a resident of Deaconess Nursing Home in January 1986. She had previously worked at the Deaconess Home for 15 years. She was a member of the Washington Church and an honorary member of the ALCW.
Surviving are three grandchildren, Kathryn Kingsbury of Apple Valley, Minnesota, Kent Gronlie of Northwood, and David Gronlie of Bismarck, North Dakota, and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son Orville Gronlie and 15 brothers and sisters, Andrew, Gus, Lars, Bernard, Olaf, Peter, Joseph, Martin, Edward, Gena, Ida,and Helga Onsager, and three in infancy.
