Lyle M. Mahr, 62, of South Sioux City, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2010 at a Sioux City hospital.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in South Sioux City, Nebraska with Father Dan Wittrock officiating. Visitation will begin at the Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City at 5 p.m. tonight with the family present at 6 p.m. and a wake service at 7 p.m. Online condolences may be sent at www.mohrfuneralhome.com.
Lyle was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on March 26, 1948, the son of Joseph and Lois (Schulze) Mahr. He grew up in Van Horne, Iowa, and graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1966. After graduation, he worked at IBP before moving to Fort Morgan, Colorado to work. He then moved back to South Sioux City where he owned and operated Mahr Backhoe for many years. When his health deteriorated, he went into insurance sales before becoming a locksmith.
Lyle married Pat Martin on July 23, 1993 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emerson, Nebraska, at which time he also became a father to Pat’s seven children.
He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in South Sioux City, the South Sioux City Knights of Columbus, and the Home Builders Association. He was a founding member of Siouxland Underwater Search and Recovery. He also taught hunter safety classes for many years.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, photography, and spending time with his family and his favorite grandchildren, Dillion, Chace, Brice, Jake, Claire, Carson, Quinn and Nash.
Survivors include his mother, Lois Mahr; his wife, Pat; children, Tim Martin, Tina Kreider, Tom Martin, Tracie Morgan, Troy Martin, Tami Morgan, Trent Martin; eight grandchildren; one sister, Linda Miller; one brother, Larry (Laury) Mahr; and four nieces, Lisa, Monica, Jennifer and Jaclyn.
Lyle was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Mahr.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be directed to the family for disbursement to Lyle’s favorite charities.
