Sophia Kluss, 79, Passes on Friday

Miss Sophia Kluss, for many years a resident of this community, passed away Friday at Waukon where she had been making her home for the past several years. She was 79 years old. Funeral services were held at the Schutte funeral home in this city Monday afternoon at one o’clock, conducted by the Rev. Frederick R. Ludwig, and interment was in the cemetery at Garnavillo.

Sophia Mary Fredericka Kluss was born October 21, 1867, as the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Kluss, her father passing on when she was but one month old. She attended the country schools in the Garnavillo community until she was ten years old when the family moved to Grand Meadow township and where she had to assist her mother. After a residence of nine years in Grand Meadow, Miss Kluss came to Postville with her mother and here the family home was established. Her mother passed away in 1905.

Miss Kluss was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Reka, and five brothers, Henry, John, Fred, William and August.
