Funeral services were held Thursday, Sept. 11at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon for Joseph H. Schulte, 79, who died Sept. 8 at his home in Waukon.
The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg officiated with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon.
Joseph was born Dec. 8, 1917 in Dorchester, the son of Henry T. and Mary Margaret (Connor) Schulte. He was educated in the local schools, and was a rural mail carrier for 31 years until his retirement.
He and Kathleen Wunderlin were married June 27, 1946 in Platteville, Wis. and they lived in Dorchester and Waukon.
He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Theresa (Ron) Wessels of Stevens Point, Wis., Karen (Ron) Schmitz of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Sheila Kirkeby of New Hampton; two sons, Ron (Sue) of Muscatine, and Jerry (Sue) of Waukon; eleven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three brothers, Vince and Hank of Waukon, and Frank of Dorchester; and a sister, Mary Gavin of Waukon.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Kruse; three brothers, Clarence, Lawrence and Ben; and a sister Theresa.
He was a 50 year member of the American Legion, having served in the Army's 399th Infantry Regiment, 100th Infantry Division, and earned the Bronze Star for service in France & Germany in World War II.
Casket bearers were nephews Mark, Dan, Gary, Eugene, Lyle and Jan Schulte.
Pat and Tom Tierney were lector and eucharistic minister.
Hanson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
